Last week Saturday the Young Adults held a Barn Dance in the DG Mills Halls. The Social committee arrived early to decorate the hall as a country barn complete with a wheelbarrow, rake and fresh fruit and vegetables. At 7.30pm everyone arrived dressed in their country finest with some people even going to the trouble of hiring leather cowboy pants! Kevin Abbot, a DJ on CCFM, was the Barn Dance Caller. He had recently been involved in a Country show at Grand West where he impersonated Jonny Cash and Elvis Presley to name a few. He was perfect for the job and got everybody onto the dance floor. Kevin demonstrated each dance and gave us a few times to practice before we did it for real. We even had a Sokkie segment where some of the professionals could show off their moves to the sounds of ‘Loslappie’. Everybody had lots of fun from the beginners to the Barn Dance veterans. I think the YA Barn Dance will have to become an annual event!
